RAAF Williamtown Flying Club

The RAAF Williamtown Flying Club (RWFC) is an Australian Defence Force (ADF) Welfare Club located at RAAF Base Williamtown, NSW.

Membership is open to all Australian Defence Organisation (ADO) personnel within the Newcastle/Hunter region including reserve and ex-serving members. Additionally, membership may also be granted to civilians within the region in order to strengthen the relationship between the RAAF and the local community.

RWFC is proudly supported by Phil Unicomb Aviation who provides Part 141 Air Operator Certificate and oversight for pilot training. This includes training to achieve a Recreational Pilot Licence, Private Pilot Licence or Commercial Pilot Licence.

Endorsement training is also available (based on aircraft availability) such as

  • Manual propeller pitch control (piston engine)
  • Tailwheel undercarriage
  • Retractable undercarriage
  • Aerobatics
  • Formation flying (aeroplane)

Club management and flight booking is conducted through FlightCircle. There is an Apple iPad mini available to all club members for use as an electronic flight bag (EFB).

The Grob 115 C2 is a lightweight, composite two‑seat training aircraft designed for stability, predictable handling, and reliable performance. It’s widely used for ab‑initio and advanced flight training due to its robust construction, efficient operating characteristics, and forgiving flight behaviour. It is powered by a Lycoming O‑360‑A1F6 (160 hp / 119 kW) engine with a variable-pitch, constant-speed Hartzell HC‑F2YR‑1F propeller.

The Grob is ideal for ab-initio pilot training and cross-country navigation.

Pipistrel Virus SW (PIVI)

The Pipistrel Virus SW is a lightweight, composite two‑seat aircraft designed for high efficiency, fast cruise speeds, and short‑field performance. It’s known for its excellent fuel economy, advanced aerodynamics, and versatility for training or cross‑country flying. It is powered by a Rotax 912 ULS (100HP – 73.5kW) engine with an in-flight mechanically adjustable-pitch propeller.

The Virus is fitted with a Garmin G3X Touch avionics system with ADS-B in/out and autopilot making this aircraft ideal for scenic flights and cross-country navigation.

The American Champion 8KCAB Super Decathlon is a lightweight, aerobatic two‑seat aircraft designed for strength, agility, and precise handling. It’s widely used for aerobatic training and tailwheel instruction due to its robust steel‑tube construction, responsive control feel, and proven durability. It is powered by a Lycoming AEIO‑360‑A1B (180 hp / 134 kW) engine with a fixed‑pitch propeller.
